Gilbert Whitley, manager, announ ces that Gie business of the meeting will include reports on the past year of co-op operations, and the election of directors who will serve until the next annual meeting. The Bar X’Boys, who have recently appeared at Leon and Eddie’s in New York and the Capitol theater in Ra leigh, will be the star attraction on the entertainment program, The Bar X Boys, headed by Ray Riggs, are rapidly acquiring- reputa tions as being first-class entertain ers. • Manager Whitley also annonuced that a beauty contest will be staged in connection with the meeting. Already entered in the beauty con test are Betty Gay of Route 2, Wal stontourg; Mary Alice day of" Route 3, Snow Hill; Jean Jones and Joan Atkinson of Greenville, Route, 1; and Billie Jean Hunt of Stantonaburg, Route 2. ' There will also be worthwhile at tendance prizes for the lucky winners. Many of these prizes are being dona ted by firms within the area served by the cooperative. "We are expecting a large per centage of our members to be pres ent," said Mr. Whitley. "They will have a good time, and at the same time transact business of importance to their organization. The cooperative now operates 433 miles of line, serving 2521 consumers .of electricity in Pitt, Greene, Wayne, Lenoir and Wilson counties. To date the cooperative has borrowed $656,000 from REA and has repaid $133,903 of this, amount including $44,138 paid in advance of the due date, plus 2% interest on the unpaid balance. FOUNTAIN PHONE OFFICE OPENED Fountain’s new telephone central office was placed in service Monday morning- at 7 o’clock, it was announced by R. L. Spivey, Farmville group in tbe Farmville telephone exchange manager for the Carolina Telephone and Telegraph company. Fountain is group. The new building was needed to serve additional subscribers and to provide better grades of service for present subscribers who desire it. The new office contains 90 lines and will substantially increase the town's tele phone facilities^ Duefto the expansion in Fountain, Mr. Spivey pointed out that some tel ephone numbers changed when' the new office was placed in service. A temporary directory has been distri buted which lists all new and cbrrect numbers. Mr. Spivey urges all sub scribers in Fountain to consult the new directory for numbers in order to avoid-delay and inconvenience of ob taining a wrong number. Anyone who did not receive a new directory may obtain one by contacting the office in Farmville. ' In addition to the construction of the new Fountain office Spivey stat ed outside facilities have been rear ranged and expanded in some sections Of town. Total cost of the expansion program is estimated at $10,000. x that time, Lanier was second man ta charge of the tobacco division of the agriculture department, working under J. B. Hutson.
